Let's celebrate the small pieces of self-celebration; the things that give us the extra boost of confidence to walk into an interview, feel sexy on a first date, or nail that audition.
Personally, one of those small elements of self-assurance is a great lipstick. We pull out all of our fall sweaters and denim, heavier coats, but how does the change in season affect our beauty routine?
I live in the New York/New Jersey area, and when fall arrives, my sexy summer dew exits. I love a subtle touch to draw the eye, which is why I love a flattering fall lip. Here are my favorites:
1. buxom full-on lip cream in rose julep
Buxom does a lip gloss very well. They are well-pigmented, plumping, and long-lasting - I have a few shades myself. This particular shade, though, is the most beautiful fall flush for your lips. It's not a statement, per say, but when you're wearing a simple white or dove grey cashmere turtleneck half-tucked into a black cigarette pant and some bright statement flats, you don't always want a loud lip to match your shoes. This is the fall-lip for the subtler reader, the minimalist: A natural flush of color without any shimmer.
2. anastasia beverly hills liquid lipstick in american doll
ABH is known for the pigment and quality of their liquid lipsticks - they're one of my favorite formulas, in fact. American doll is a classic retro red with blue undertones - it's flattering on all (and I do mean all skin tones) - and has a matte finish. I love this lip for an all-black everything-day. When applied well, this lip can pack a punch and make your teeth look whiter in the process.
3. kat von d in lolita II
KVD has a beautiful highly-pigmented formula that is gorgeous for fall. The two Lolita shades sell out quickly, but if you can get your hands on them they are worth the price. I love Lolita II because of the terra cotta undertones - it looks beautiful if you have blue eyes and are sporting a low-maitenance copper eye and a peach blush, but this shade could be flattering on anyone who has warm to neutral undertones in their skin. I'd love to see this lip paired with an ivory or camel-colored sweater dress.
In my opinion, MAC'S lip pencil in the color Spice is a secret weapon. Lining your lips with this pencil and then filling in the rest with a petroleum-based balm like Vaseline can take your lip up a notch and make it look like you barely tried. It fades naturally throughout the day, and it is a great choice for the gal who doesn't want a liquid lip on all day - they can be dry-ing depending on the formula.
