TKF Guide: K's Carry-On Bag

Hello, hello! I am currently typing to you from across the pond and I am gutted to be leaving tomorrow.

The UK is so magical and we've lucked out with the most stunning summer weather. Each day has been more beautiful than the last, and I’ve been drinking up every last moment here. It has been such a special experience to dive deep into the richest history that this beautiful country has to offer.

I can't wait to share the details with you.

But first.

My last time visiting Europe, I was a bright-eyed nineteen year old, traveling to Ireland with my Mom and some family friends. On that adventure, I'm pretty positive no article of clothing, shoe, or toiletry was left behind in the states. My bag was 54lbs - never a smart choice when you're touring a country, and I was stuck lugging a broken suitcase everywhere.

How’s that for a stroke of Irish luck?

This time around, I decided that I would only pack what I absolutely knew I would need. This began with my carry-on...

The day before we left, I stumbled upon a final sale Michael Kors Bryce Large Black Canvas Tote at TJMaxx. I swooned over its perfect size and durable material. With London’s less than-lovely-weather, I was thrilled to not have to worry about the canvas material being ruined by bad weather or getting tossed carelessly around in security.

What’s in the bag…

  1. Laptop and Charger - I always bring my computer with me, even if it’s a shorter flight. I love to throw my headphones in and get focus in on writing, completely uninterrupted. Most flights have an outlet close by which I always utilize to keep my phone and kindle charged.

  2. Sunglasses

  3. Baby Wipes - Admittedly, I am that girl who wipes down her airplane seat before sitting on it.

  4. Contoured Eye Mask - I use this one from Amazon and it’s amazing. The contours in the mask really help you to fall asleep without feeling like anything is pressing on your eyelids.

  5. A Large Wrap Scarf - I am somehow always freezing cold on an airplane, so having this stowed away helps to keep me feeling cozy and comfortable. Sometimes, during turbulence, it helps to be wrapped in a touch of home.

  6. Shorts - Upon arrival, the LAST thing I want to be is uncomfortable. I love an airport bathroom costume change, if you will. I almost always change it up upon arrival, especially if your destination has a different climate than where you're arriving from. For this trip specifically, London was about the same as the Tri-State Area, but the airplane itself was freezing. Some lightweight shorts that are breezy and comfortable are the solution, and it just helps me to feel put together and ready to begin a new adventure.

  7. LIQUIDS

I packed my toiletries (ie. shampoo, conditioner, body butter) in the larger plastic pouch and utilized the smaller plastic bag for the items I enjoy using during the flight.

FAVorites…

  • Supergoop! SPF 50 Defense Refresh Setting Mist Sunscreen - This is amazing to keep in your purse and spray on the face mid-day. If you’re traveling somewhere where you’re spending a majority of your time outdoors, it’s important to protect yourself. This is so convenient and smells gorgeous without being too overpowering.

  • Mario Badescu Rosewater Facial Spray and Lavender Facial Spray Duo - I use the rosewater spray to set my skincare and my makeup, or for a refresh mid-day if needed. It resets everything and gives the skin a beautiful glow. I also love to use the lavender one before bed. (NOTE: The linked duo is not the travel size. I bought mine at Ulta!)

  • BENEFIANCE Pure Retinol Instant Treatment Eye Mask by Shiseido - I really enjoy using this eye mask because it's so brightening. I apply these under my eyes when the pilot announces the beginning of descent. Then, I set an alarm for 15 mins and throw on my sunglasses. By the time we’ve landed, I’m feeling refreshed and looking visibly more awake.

  • YUNI Beauty - Shower Sheets, Large Cleansing Body Wipes - These are basically oversized baby wipes for your entire body. I typically will get off the plane, stop at the restroom, and pull one of these out to freshen up.

What are your carry-on essentials?

Love on love,
